HEAT STOP Refractory Mortar Specifications

This refractory mortar is gray in color and is available in 15 lb. and 50 lb. plastic pails.

Coverage Estimate

For estimation purposes, 50 lbs. will lay approximately 100 firebricks (2 ½ inches thick) with a joint thickness of 1/16 inch to 1/8 inch, as recommended.

Usage Instructions

  • Mix thoroughly before use. No additional additives are required.
  • If the product becomes frozen, thaw it and mix thoroughly before use.

  • Meets and exceeds ASTM C-199 medium duty standards.

  • Suitable for applications exceeding 2000°F.

Important Notes

HEAT STOP premixed is an air-setting product but may become water-soluble in service. It is not recommended for exterior applications or areas with excessive moisture. For applications in moist environments, use HEAT STOP II or HEAT STOP – 50, which are non-water-soluble products.

Tips for Best Results

  • Thoroughly mix all contents in the container before use.
  • If the product appears dry after mixing, add a small amount of clean water and remix it thoroughly.
  • For firebrick installation, maintain joint thickness between 1/16" and 1/8".
  • If joints are thicker than 1/8" or in extremely humid conditions (such as after rain), the product may take longer to dry. To speed up drying, open the damper, place a fan in front of it, or use other methods to promote airflow or heat around the installation.
